Ways to Support

The community has been a pivotal part of Phoenix since the beginning in 1987.

With the power of your compassion and care for Phoenix youth and their families, we maintain our commitment to our mandate as we continually address the inequities of poverty, marginalization, and homelessness, and to advance the tenets of social justice broadly and deeply for positive change.

Explore the ways you can support youth, below.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Become a Monthly Donor

Monthly giving is an easy, stress-free and secure way to show your commitment to youth and families who need it most.

In 2013 Kes and Ashley were blessed with their beautiful daughter.  Being in a fortunate position to be able to provide for their child already, they decided to direct the tax credit they receive from government as a donation to Phoenix.  Not only is their monthly gift a cost-effective, convenient way to give; it helps to provide a foundation from which Phoenix can be proactive and strategic in addressing the needs of youth in the year ahead.

By setting up a monthly payment plan you provide Phoenix with a reliable funding source, helping to ensure sustained support for our programs. Think of the impact if ten people gave just $10 a month! That’s $1,200 worth of support each year!

For your loyalty and commitment, Phoenix will provide you with program updates and information on how contributions have helped youth and families through our eNews, Donor Report and bi-annual newsletters.

Download our Monthly Donor Information Form here.

By using our safe and secure online giving page, you can feel comfortable knowing your information is protected. Each month the donation will appear on your bank or credit card statement. You will receive an annual, charitable receipt from Phoenix, with your total contribution for the year. It's that easy!

Contact us for more information (902-422-3015).

Give a Gift of Securities

A gift of publicly traded securities can have a positive impact for both you and youth.

Your gift can make a real difference for youth as it can be used to address immediate pressing needs (such as emergency situations due to the housing crisis or during the pandemic when needs were uncertain and/or changing) or strategically utilized over a longer-term to have a lasting impact and create stability.

Gifting stock may also be positive as you may be elibible for tax benefits. We advise you consult with your financial advisor and/or accountant.

Publicly traded stocks and securities can be given either through your financial advisor or online.

Donor Story

Shirley and Neil chose to support Phoenix in a new way: they gave a gift of stock. While meeting with their financial advisor, he asked them if they had considered making their donation through stock rather than a cash donation. This type of gift allowed them to avoid capital gains tax and, after discussing this option with their financial advisor, they decided this was a great way for them to support Phoenix. When asked about their nearly two decades of committed support for Phoenix, the answer is simple, “It’s an opportunity to help youth.”

Honour or Remember Someone Special

Choosing to honour or remember someone special by making a gift to Phoenix, is a meaningful act. It is incredibly touching when someone transforms the positive impact a loved one has made into tangible support for youth.

The honouree or family will receive a letter acknowledging the gift and include any personal note you would like them to receive.

You can made this gift one of two ways:

  • Online
  • Phone by calling Carol Anne at 902.405.3068 or our main office at 902.422-3105

Charitable tax receipts will be provided for donations $10 and above.

Plan a Fundraising Activity for Phoenix

Gift your Celebration to Phoenix

Instead of receiving gifts or giving party favours at your upcoming special occassion, consider using the celebration as a way to give to the many youth and families who access Phoenix each year! Whether you're celebrating a birthday, anniversary, reunion, or wedding, you can make your special day extra special by giving back!

“It felt good, making a donation to support others in need on our wedding day instead of spending money on guest favours for things they likely didn’t want, and didn’t need. They appreciated it, and they felt good about it, too!”- Carol and Paul Smith

Choose one of the following gifting in lieu options:

1. Make a donation to Phoenix in lieu of party or wedding favours. We can help craft a Phoenix branded note so your guests know you contributed to bright opportunities instead of giving 'stuff'!

2. Ask people to bring donations for Phoenix to your event instead of giving gifts. Then, drop off the donations at Phoenix Centre for Youth, 6035 Coburg Rd.,  (Open: Monday to Friday 9AM-5PM). Please include your name or group's name on the envelope and what type of milestone you celebrated.

If donors would like tax receipts, we can make that happen for gifts of $10 or more when accompanied by the completed pledge form. Call our fund development team at least one week before your event if you would like more information about our simple receipting process: 902-422-3105.

3. Ask your guests to give online through Phoenix's CanadaHelps page. Be sure to tell those celebrating with you to indicate in the "notes section" what their gift is celebrating (i.e., Jamie Doe's Birthday; Sam Upshaw and Joe Smith's Anniversary; High School ABC's reunion). Tax receipts will be provided immediately by email.

4. Create your own CanadaHelps page for your celebration. Here you can customize your request to give to Phoenix in lieu of gifts by adding images and details about your 'in lieu campaign'.

Coordinate a Third Party Initiative

Third party initiatives are those that are organized by external groups (e.g. school groups, individuals, families or buisnesses) to raise money in support of Phoenix programs. By hosting a third party event, whether big or small, you’re not just helping to raise essential funds, but also a greater awareness about the services and programs Phoenix provides to your community.

"We originally heard about Phoenix through our church in Fall River. We have three beautiful, loving and kind daughters and to ever think of them on their own without support would be tragic. Phoenix Youth Programs is something we feel the need to support because we want somewhere for young people to go in case of a crisis in their lives. All of the people that come to our movie night have young kids and are happy to support something local in our community." - Steve & Julie Archibald

We want your event to be a success so we provide you with support and resources as appropriate. Our Third Party Toolkit  includes information on how to make your event a huge success!

Include a Gift in Your Will

Your Legacy. Their Future.

Leaving a gift to Phoenix in your will is a thoughtful and personal investment in the future of your community. By doing so, your legacy will be a voice for social justice and will support Phoenix youth in their journey to thrive for many years to come.

It is simple. Talk it over with your loved ones, the speak to your lawyer about drafting or revising your will.

It is a gift that gives back. With a tax receipt issued by Phoenix, it is an effective way to reduce personal taxes owed on death, and those potentially owed by your estate.

It can be altered. For as long as you are mentally capable of doing so, you can make changes to your will. That means that if you life situation changes and you want to increase or decrease your gift value, or remove it all together, you can easily do so by talking to your lawyer.

It will impact the future of youth. Did you know that even a gift in your will of 1% of your estate can make a real difference for future generations of youth and their families?

Have your Employer Match Your Gifts

Working together, companies and employees can maximize their donation efforts by establishing a matching gifts incentive program. Through this program, employers can commit to match any donations raised by employees, either as individuals or as a part of a third-party fundraising event, doubling the impact of your gift!

By matching contributions to Phoenix, employee donations are going even further to help support local youth.

“RBC believes that when employees and retirees volunteer their time and expertise, they play a vital role in helping build better communities. Since 1999, RBC has donated almost $29 million in celebration of employee and retiree volunteer efforts at non-profit agencies through the Team RBC Grant. We have partnered with Phoenix to cook delicious meals, support their community outreach and goodwill efforts, complete gardening projects and are about to embark on financial literacy and learning to coding education sessions.  As an employee at RBC, I get to spend time with Phoenix and my peers, helping the agency achieve its objectives, while providing financial support. This same support is available year round to all RBC employees around the world. I am proud to be part of an organization that believes a key part of their purpose is helping communities prosper!” - Janet Martin, Global Contingent Workforce Management (CWM), Human Resources Shared Services, RBC Canada

Phoenix Special Events

Throughout the year, Phoenix hosts annual signature events to raise awareness and funds to help meet their mission of supporting youth and families in their journey to thrive.

Our signature fundraising events include Dreamscape and the Phoenix Holiday Luncheon.

“The Phoenix Holiday Luncheon has always served as the kick-off to the holiday season for us. The Berkeley has bought a table every year, for at least the last five, so that we can treat our staff to this lovely, festive event. Every year, we all feel truly uplifted by the good work done by Phoenix. The stories of featured Phoenix youth are so heartfelt, triumphant and inspirational. The joy exuded by the music is also such a special part of the luncheon, and proof that music can be both therapeutic and challenging - encouraging personal growth and healing the soul. The Berkeley is a committed supporter and partner of Phoenix.” - Catherine Campbell, The Berkeley Retirement Residences.

The goal is simple—host an unforgettable event for our donors while raising funds for a great cause. Each signature event is entertaining and inspiring, allowing our supporters to enjoy engaging company, delicious food and the opportunity to learn more about the amazing work being done at Phoenix.

You won’t want to miss our next Phoenix signature event! It’s guaranteed to be a memorable night of philanthropy and fun.

Hear About Your Impact

Phoenix is an essential part of the community, and the community is an essential part of us.

Since 1984, community members like you, have embraced Phoenix’s mission to support youth and their families in their journey to thrive.

Thank you for putting your belief in the potential of youth, into action and investing in their bright futures.

Spread the Word & Advocate

All of us can advocate for the issues we care about. Addressing poverty, racism, marginalization, housing insecurity, and committing to the tenets of social justice are foundational to Phoenix’s mandate. We know these issues are as important to you as they are to us.

By collectively keeping the conversation going about these issues in our community, we have a greater impact in expressing the importance of addressing them and ultimately improving the wellbeing of everyone.

Here are some ways you can add your voice to the conversation for action:

If you have questions about how you can spread the word and advocate, please contact Sade at sstacey@phoenixyouth.ca.
