Mo Kenney and Asiah Sparks Confirmed to Perform at the 2024 Phoenix Holiday Luncheon!

There's still time to get your tickets to the 2024 Phoenix Holiday Luncheon!

Presented by Stewart McKelvey, this year's event will be hosted in the beautiful Ballroom at the Halifax Convention Centre. As always, attendees can look forward to a festive three-course lunch, inspiring stories from youth connected with Phoenix, and a chance to win some amazing raffle prizes! Plus, you won't want to miss performances by our featured guests - Mo Kenney and Asiah Sparks!

Mo Kenney

On their fifth studio album, From Nowhere, Mo Kenney embraces the textures of ambiguity and the rich blur of being, failing, and becoming. As they shift through lush arrangements that touch on dreamy folk, sparse alt-country, and warm, hazed-out lo-fi pop, everything is up for interpretation and nothing is fixed. In their lyrics, Kenney opts instead to defy definition, making room for non-linear and fragmentary sentiments that challenge their own feelings about personal growth, acknowledge the slippery and shadowy nature of memory, and build love songs that conjure the bonds of friendship just as much as they hint at romance.  You can check out their music at https://www.youtube.com/mokenneymusic

Asiah Sparks

Asiah Sparks is a writer, storyteller, spoken word artist and activist. Through her work, Asiah aims to cultivate a sense of community and inclusion. Asiah is an African Nova Scotian teenager currently living in Dartmouth and stemming from the historically Black community of Lake Loon/Cherry Brook. Using poetry as a mode of expression to deal with and convey their feelings, Asiah writes that they found poetry while "aimlessly wandering" and now write to connect with communities and youth specifically who might feel like odds are stacked against them. In addition to being Halifax’s first Youth Poet Laureate, her past accomplishments include Provincial Volunteer of the Year Award and HRM Volunteer of the year Award in 2022.
