Fund Development Assistant, Phoenix Youth Programs

Position Overview: Working collaboratively with the Fund Development Team, the Fund Development Assistant will support a variety of areas of fundraising and communications activity to encourage financial and in-kind giving, raise awareness and deepen relationships. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and energetic team player.
The Fund Development Assistant will work in a shared office space on the second floor of a three-storey commercial building in downtown Halifax. Access to the building is by stairs or ramp; access to the second floor of the building is by stairs or an elevator. The office features gender-neutral washrooms, kitchen, private offices, a boardroom, a shared refrigerator, tea and coffee supplies.
Compensation: $22.75/hour.
Hours of work: Generally, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday with some evening and weekends to attend events.
Location: Phoenix Youth Programs Administrative Office, 5880 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax.
Reports to: Director of Development.
Screening Requirements: Due to the sensitive nature of our work with youth, this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse register check and proof of education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an integral member of the Fund Development team, the Fund Development Assistant will support the following areas of activity and responsibilities:
Database administration
· Create and update constituent records
· Input data
· Data clean-up, coding and sorting
Research
· Conduct research for prospective major gifts and grants to find alignment in values and giving priorities
· Build backgrounders summarizing research and recommendations
Administration and file systems
· Organize digital and physical file systems
· Create and implement file storage process
Third party/community engagement
· Research new and existing partners
· Helping to create an annual calendar of events and activities
Communications and social media
· Organizing annual calendar
· Collecting, creating and capturing content
· Uploading and managing files
QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolment in a post-secondary program (university or college) in Business, Public Relations, Communications or a related program
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications and experience using a fundraising database such as Raiser’s Edge is an asset)
Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
Proactive thinker with proven problem-solving skills.
Energetic and personable, with a relationship focused approach; confident and eager to engage with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and colleagues.
Candidates with diverse backgrounds, including those with experience in non-profit or fundraising work, are encouraged to apply.
