As I reflect on the unwavering commitment your team has shown during these challenging times, there is no question that resilience has always been a staple in your culture and has been contagious to the youth and families you support.
During these stressful times, you should be reminded of the extraordinary impact you have on the people you serve, knowing that your hard work and dedication is not going unnoticed. At a time when the support you provide is especially critical, it is important to recall the positive results of your outstanding contributions.
One story in particular comes to mind when I think about Phoenix Youth and the topic of resilience. Last December, Destinie – a member of the Phoenix Youth Program, was given the opportunity to showcase her artistic talent by creating a unique clothing design for East Coast Lifestyle’s special holiday collection. Today, we could all use a reminder of Destinie’s inspiration for the design and the strong message behind her vision, described as:
“My design is symbolic in two ways. First, the lobster represents me because they have a tough outer shell to protect themselves from danger, and, like me, are resilient. I've gone through a lot of tough situations and because of that I built a strong shell to protect myself and my feelings. Life has been hard but I've pushed through it. Second, the hat symbolizes protection. Phoenix saved me from being scared out on the street and not knowing where to go. I've been provided with a roof over my head, food on the table, and the ability to get back on my feet." - Destinie, Phoenix youth designer
Through these unprecedented times and events, all Nova Scotian’s have had to rely on the strength of our outer shell, and like Destinie’s vision for the logo, we have all displayed remarkable strength and resilience while protecting those in need as they navigate new obstacles. Phoenix this is what you do every day for our youth, so thank you for your continued advocacy, bravery, and resilience!
