FACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER

FULL-TIME 4 DAYS / WEEK (32 HOURS)
START DATE: JUNE 2023

JOB SUMMARY: The Facility Maintenance Worker will be responsible for repairs and preventative maintenance of equipment at several Phoenix facilities located in the Halifax peninsula. Weekly duties could include projects such as drywall repair, painting, carpentry work, minor plumbing repairs, and seasonal outside work such as lawn care and some shovelling. The Facility Maintenance Worker is required to have a reliable vehicle for travel to each location and pick up materials and supplies as required.

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Compensation: $41,600 - $49,920 per year ($25 - $30 per hour). Comprehensive Group Medical Insurance Plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP Contributions, Paid Vacation & Sick Time, Generous Paid Holiday Schedule, Travel Allowance

Hours of Work: 32 Hours / Week (4 Days / Week with Negotiated Schedule)

Locations: Several locations within the Halifax Peninsula. Settings include offices, community resource centres, and residential programs. Travel between locations is required.

Screening Requirements: Due to the sensitive nature of our work with youth, this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal records check including a vulnerable sector search and child abuse register check.

• Basic Drywall / Plaster Repair & Painting
• Furniture Assembly & Relocation
• Basic Carpentry Repairs & Installation
• Basic Plumbing Repairs
• Lawn & Garden Care / Maintenance
• Preventative Maintenance Checks on Key Facility Assets
• Other Duties as Required / Assigned by Facilities Manager

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
• Maintain tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order.
• Respond to emergency situations to help ensure staff and facility safety.
• Adhere to all safety requirements and wear protective gear as required.
• Work in accordance with Phoenix’s Employee Policies.
• Work collaboratively with Operations Team to best meet the needs of the agency.
• Support Phoenix’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through learning
opportunities, critical self-reflection, and professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience.

• Certification and/or experience working in one of the trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) would be considered an asset.

• WHIMIS Certification (or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire) • Strong verbal and written communication skills including via email and text.

• The ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

• Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
